Bloodstone is a cryptocrystalline mixture of quartz that often includes jasper and chalcedony. The beads used here are green jasper with red hematite inclusions and most resemble the classic description of bloodstone. There are many legends and superstitions that surround bloodstone including that ancient Greek and Roman athletes wore it to aid in success in their games. Also, ancient Roman soldiers believed it helped slow bleeding and wore it for that reason in battle!
